The morning sun streamed through the office window, warming Elias’s face as he leaned back in his chair. He’d polished off his favorite cinnamon roll and, as he waited for the newbie, a slow, contented smile played on his lips. His fingers danced across the keyboard, responding to a few emails with breezy, efficient replies. He’d have them all done, and the files prepped, before the fresh blood even walked through the door.

He stretched, arching his back and relishing the satisfying pops in his spine. This was the life.

The door clicked open, and in walked Sarah, his replacement. "Morning," she offered, her voice a little tight. Elias simply gestured to the empty chair beside him.

“Well, let’s get started. You’ll be a pro in no time.” He winked.
